PlanITROI Launches Digital Dreams Project to Bridge the Digital Divide

Tackling the Needs of K-12 Students Who Remain Digitally Underserved Due to COVID-19

DENVILLE, N.J.—September 14, 2020—PlanITROI, a global leader in IT asset disposition (ITAD), announced today the launch of its social impact division, Digital Dreams Project (DDP), in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The mission is to continue bridging the digital divide.

Just before 2021, up to 12 million K-12 students remained digitally underserved according to a recent report. This includes students who lacked connectivity, an e-learning device or both. Although progress to bridge the digital divide has been significant, this is not a short-term issue.

PlanITROI is working toward accomplishing its DDP mission, through refurbishing or reselling idle devices and utilizing all profits to purchase appropriate devices for K-12 students in need. To amplify efforts, PlanITROI is partnering with businesses, organizations and individuals to provide devices and mentorship.

DDP stemmed from TechTuesday. PlanITROI founder and CEO, Paul Baum, and his daughter created the nonprofit program in 2017 to help families caught in the digital divide. The goal is to provide education and affordable technology, to students in need. This enables students the ability to complete homework and further their education. TechTuesday, held 22 Tuesdays during the school year, is run by volunteers to provide mentorship. They include teen mentors and STEM teachers, who are dedicated to the mission.

“It’s always been my passion to change lives with affordable technology, since I started in the ITAD industry more than 30 years ago,” said Baum. “The Digital Dreams Project came to fruition at a time when so many K-12 students in need still lack consistent access to a computer, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to this crisis, PlanITROI is even more driven to get devices into the hands of these students caught in the digital divide, so they can begin achieving their full potential.”

Since 2001, PlanITROI has recertified and distributed computers to more than 7 million individuals. A provider of ITAD services to corporations, educational institutions, government and OEM retailers, PlanITROI is committed to preserving the highest levels of environmental responsibility and data security. With a history of processing more than 10 million devices and billions of bits of data, PlanITROI has never had an incident of a client’s confidential information being exposed, since its inception in 2001.

Businesses, organizations and individuals can participate in DDP—by initiating collections, donating their device or making a financial contribution—to help bridge the digital divide for K-12 students in need. Visit digitaldreamsproject.com.
